Verify a student business in Nigeria before you transact

Buying from a campus business can be risky when you cannot confirm who is behind it. UBIN closes that gap: every enrolled business is checked by a UBIN review team against four independent claims — the owner's identity, their active affiliation with a Nigerian university or polytechnic, physical evidence that the business exists, and their NUBAN bank account name.

Instead of a single yes/no badge, each business profile shows which checks passed. That means a business in Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt can prove it is run by a genuine student while keeping the founder's residential details and bank records private.

UBIN is a private trust registry, not a government register. It does not replace CAC registration — but before you pay a student vendor or list a customer on a marketplace, it is the fastest way to verify a Nigerian business online and avoid obvious fraud. Explore participating institutions, read our verification policy, or connect your app to the public registry API.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UBIN (University Business Identification Number)?

A UBIN is a verified identification number issued to a student-led business operating from a Nigerian tertiary institution. It confirms the owner's identity, their university association, the existence of the business, and their payment identity — and it can be looked up publicly by code or business name.

How do I verify a student business in Nigeria?

Enter the business's UBIN code or name on the Verify page. Approved businesses display four badges — Identity Verified, Institution Verified, Business Evidence Verified and Payment Identity Match — alongside their campus and category. Any business that has not passed all checks is clearly flagged.

Does UBIN replace CAC or NIPC registration?

No. UBIN is a private trust registry focused on identity and affiliation within a university ecosystem. It is not a government licence and does not replace Corporate Affairs Commission registration, company incorporation or any statutory permit.

Which Nigerian universities and polytechnics are covered?

UBIN accepts applicants from active registered institutions across Nigerian states. Use the Institutions page to see participating universities and polytechnics, browse by state, and confirm the code used in each business's UBIN number.

What does the Payment Identity Match badge mean?

When a business applies, its NUBAN account number is resolved through Paystack to the account holder's legal name and compared against the verified owner. The badge confirms the deposit account belongs to the person the business claims to be run by.

How long does a UBIN last before renewal?

A UBIN is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. A reminder is sent before expiry, and any business that does not renew is shown publicly as Expired so buyers are never left guessing.
